Keeping track of various DC area attainments, with the help of John Munnell and various other paddling masochists ;-)

5.8ish
Attained up the backchannel, exited above the Md chute, ferried across to Va island and crossed over to the Va chute channel and headed up the VA shore. Made it to one of the eddies next to the high rock wall on the Va side, ferried to md and couldnt make it up further.
Bet that ferry above the Chutes took some work! So you got past the Jumps? It sounds like you made it to the corner that marks the bottom of the gorge, maybe?
Haven't done it myself...but would have expected that you might be able to get a ways up the gorge on the MD side. Steady work for sure!
Adam VG talks about attaining into the 6s like it's a given --- but he's always in glass, of course.
It wasn't too bad, I think higher it would be tough there but easier up higher. I didnt make it to the corner, just one eddy below. Lines were a little too steep and both sides. Maybe with some more work. And I don't think you could attain from center to above the chutes, but I didnt look for sure. I probably could've gotten further in my slalom boat...
Attaining in the 5s & 6s is tough and not a given whatsoever (unless you're a crazy attainment junkie like me). I'd say any of the traditional moves (up Maryland Chute, up Virginia Chute, up Upper Maryland Chute, up Center Chute, up Wet Bottom, up Lower Wet Bottom Ledge) at the 5s and 6s are serious, though fun, moves that are great workouts.
